Choosing, growing and maintaining Fruit trees and bushes in our Urban gardens. This class will help you pick the best varieties for our area and how to plant ,fertilize ,prune and spray fruit trees and bushes for maximum production with the least amounts of inputs.  

Jeff Raska  will be discussing raising chickens from chicks to hens included brooder care, housing, breed selection and nutrition for all stages of a life. Jeff is an avid Backyard chicken enthusiast and will be presenting this program as a private citizen.   

Learn about Texas A&M AgriLife Extensions  Earth-Kind gardening principles and see how we can grow beautiful landscapes using earth friendly practices. We will learn the 10 concepts of Earth-Kind gardening and how to incorporate them in your home gardens.

Volunteers receive 40 hours of education related to wellness, nutrition, childhood health, food safety, healthy food preparation, public speaking and much more. Steve Hudkins, County Extension Agent Horticulture and Master Gardener Program Coordinator and Jeff Rask, Horticulture Program Assistant will be presenting information on successful vegetable gardening.  Included in the presentation will be information on construction and management of raised beds including raised bed soil, drip irrigation and square foot gardening.  Topics will also include selection of vegetable varieties for North Texas and planting dates. You will have the opportunity to see actual raised beds and drip irrigation systems in place.
